Holy Cross Church, Hospet, reverently celebrated Confraternity Sunday on 1st February 2026, marking the day as a profound occasion of brotherhood, community spirit, and spiritual renewal. The celebration began with an inspiring address by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Gregory D’Souza, who highlighted the true meaning of Confraternity Sunday, emphasizing it as a day that calls every parishioner to live in unity, service, and mutual care as one family in Christ.
As a gesture of gratitude and appreciation, all the office bearers of the church, along with parishioners who rendered selfless service throughout the year, were honoured with a token of a candle—symbolizing faith, dedication, and light in service. Parishioners who contributed the annual honorarium towards the church were also acknowledged for their continued support and generosity.
The theme of the day, “Eucharist is the Core Strength and Protection of Our Lives,” was deeply reflected in the Holy Eucharist, which was solemnly celebrated by Rev. Fr. John Pinto, OCD, the main celebrant, along with Rev. Fr. Gregory D’Souza. In his heart-touching homily, Rev. Fr. John Pinto beautifully explained the power of the Eucharist in daily life, affirming that with faith in the Eucharist, miracles are possible. His practical examples inspired the faithful to place their trust in the living presence of Christ.
A spiritually uplifting highlight of the celebration was the meaningful Eucharistic Adoration led by Rev. Fr. John Pinto. The adoration became a moment of deep thanksgiving, praise, and worship, as the parish community came together to thank the Lord for the graces and blessings received over the past year. Parishioners were drawn into a profound experience of prayer, laying down their petitions, gratitude, and intentions at the feet of the Lord.
This was followed by a devout Eucharistic procession around the church premises, accompanied by hymns and prayerful participation. The celebration concluded with the solemn Eucharistic Benediction, invoking God’s blessings upon the entire parish community.
At the end of the liturgy, Rev. Fr. Gregory D’Souza expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all those involved in the planning, preparation, and orderly execution of the celebration. On this occasion, Mrs. Lavina Pinto and Mr. Kevin Santhmayor were felicitated on their appointment as Vardo President of the SVP Organization and Varaso SFO Secretary, respectively. Ms. Angel Cutinha and Mr. Rohiston Pinto were also honoured for winning prizes in the Elocution Competition at the Diocesan level, organized by Catholic Sabha, Mangalore (R).
The celebration concluded with the entire parish community sharing breakfast together, beautifully symbolizing fellowship, unity, and brotherhood. Adding joy to the day, the ICYM youth organized stalls and lucky games, bringing vibrancy and enthusiasm to the gathering.
Confraternity Sunday at Holy Cross Church, Hospet, was indeed a spiritually enriching experience—an active preparation of hearts and minds leading towards the upcoming parish feast, rooted deeply in faith, service, and the living presence of the Eucharistic Lord.
