Hospet: July 20, 2025: Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) Hospet unit in collaboration with The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, organized ‘Konkani Sahithy Karyagar - a Konkani Literature Workshop on 20th July at the Holy Community Church Hall Hospet.
Rolston Fleming Dsouza - Unit President, conveyed a cordial welcome to the gathering. The workshop began with a message from Rev. Fr. Gregory Dsouza, the parish priest of Hospet Church, who appreciated the academy for organizing such workshops to encourage budding writers. He extended his best wishes, hoping that new literary talents would emerge from among the participants.
Mrs. Felcy Lobo from Derebail conducted a session on poetry writing during the workshop. Participants were divided into groups and given the opportunity to compose poems. Mr. Rony Crasta, Kelarai and Mr. Vinod Pinto, Taccode provided support during the sessions. The participants enthusiastically composed and presented beautiful poems. Mr. Rony Crasta, Kelarai delivered a talk on Konkani language and culture, while Dr. Joyar Rudolph Noronha spoke about the history and literature of Konkani.
In the evening, a formal program was held under the leadership of Academy President Mr. Joachim Stanley Alvares, who remarked: "Wherever Konkani people exist, the Academy strives to preserve and promote Konkani literature, art, and culture. People should take advantage of such efforts. If even one poet or poetess emerges as a result of this program, the academy’s efforts will be fruitful." Certificates were distributed to all workshop participants.
The program was also attended by Academy Member Mr. Naveen Lobo, CSCA President Mr. Vinod Pinto, ICYM President Mr. Rolston Fleming D’Souza, ICYM animators Mr. Selwin Jude Colaco, and Mr. Denis Fernandes. The event was supported by the Canara Sports and Cultural Association.
The programme ended with proposing the vote of thanks by unit secretary Mishel Tauro.
