Maundy Thursday was solemnly observed at Holy Cross Church, Hospet, on 2nd April 2026, with profound devotion and deep spiritual fervour. The sacred liturgy brought together the parish community in a meaningful celebration that reflected the essence of faith, humility, and service.
The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by the Parish Priest, Fr. Gregory D’Souza, as the main celebrant, along with Fr. Vincent D’Souza, Assistant Director of Gladsom Home, as the concelebrant. The liturgy centered around three significant pillars of the day: the institution of the Priesthood, the Holy Eucharist, and the Commandment of Love and Service.
In his heartfelt homily, Fr. Gregory D’Souza shared his personal vocation journey, touching the hearts of the faithful. He spoke about the challenges and health struggles he encountered, and how, even in moments when hope seemed lost, divine grace and the power of prayer worked wonders in his life. He expressed sincere gratitude to the parish community for accepting him wholeheartedly and for their unwavering support throughout his priestly ministry.
A deeply moving highlight of the celebration was the Washing of the Feet ceremony, symbolizing humility and service. Fr. Gregory D’Souza humbly washed the feet of the twelve chosen representatives of the parish. The act of reverently kissing the feet became the spiritual center of the service, powerfully reminding the faithful of Christ’s call to serve one another with love and humility.
Following the ceremony, both priests were felicitated on behalf of the parish fraternity by the Vice President, Secretary of the Pastoral Council, and the Coordinator of the 21 Commissions. Mr. Vivian Colaco, Vice President, addressed the gathering, acknowledging the vital role of parish priests and their tireless dedication to the spiritual growth of the community. He also paid tribute to past parish priests and remembered those who have emerged from the parish and are serving in different parts of the world. He urged the faithful to continue praying for all priests and their noble, selfless service.
The Holy Communion was then carried in a solemn procession to the Altar of Repose, marked by deep reverence and prayerful silence.
The service concluded with Adoration led by Fr. Vincent D’Souza, who offered prayers for various intentions, including families, employment, career growth, and all those who are sick and suffering. The faithful joined in unity, placing their hopes and concerns before the Lord.
The celebration of Maundy Thursday at Holy Cross Church truly became a profound spiritual experience, inspiring the faithful to live out the values of love, humility, and service in their daily lives.
