The Parish Feast of Holy Cross Church, Hospet, was celebrated with great festivity, devotion, and spiritual grandeur on 4th February 2026, drawing together the entire parish community in an atmosphere of joy, thanksgiving, and deep faith. The celebration stood as a beautiful testimony to the unity of the parish family and its unwavering trust in God’s providence.
The day began with a meaningful gesture of gratitude and appreciation, wherein parishioners who had generously contributed financially towards the parish feast were honoured with a token of a candle. This simple yet powerful symbol reflected their selfless support, shared responsibility, and willingness to keep the light of faith burning brightly within the parish community.
As per the long-cherished custom, a small yet prayerful procession was taken out from the residence of the Parish Priest, accompanied by the guest priest, the sacred Cross, and lighted candles. This procession set the spiritual tone for the feast, reminding the faithful that every celebration begins by placing Christ at the center of parish life.
The solemn Holy Eucharist was presided over by Rev. Fr. John Sequeira, OCD, the main celebrant, along with priests from the Varado and several neighbouring parishes and the diocese. Their presence added grace and solemnity to the occasion, reflecting the unity of the Church beyond parish boundaries.
The theme of the feast, “Let’s Take Our Children to Jesus,” was profoundly reflected in the liturgy and homily. In his deeply touching and spiritually enriching sermon, Rev. Fr. John Sequeira, OCD, emphasized the vital role of prayer in family life, the beauty of childlike faith, and the need for a strong and living reverence to the Cross of Jesus. He reminded the faithful that the Cross is not merely a symbol of suffering, but the ultimate source of strength, hope, and protection in our daily lives. His message inspired parents and elders to nurture faith in the younger generation and lead them closer to Christ through example and prayer.
The festive spirit of the celebration was further enhanced by the choir team, whose melodious and meaningful hymns uplifted hearts and added profound joy to the Eucharistic celebration. Their harmonious singing helped the congregation enter deeply into prayer and thanksgiving.
A special moment of devotion during the celebration was the reverence to the Relic of the Holy Cross, followed by prayerful blessings for the entire congregation. This sacred act brought the faithful into a deeper encounter with the mystery of Christ’s sacrifice and His abiding presence among His people.
At the conclusion of the Holy Mass, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Gregory D’Souza, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all those who worked tirelessly behind the scenes for the successful organization of the parish feast. He acknowledged the dedication of the various committees, volunteers, choir members, altar servers, and all parishioners whose cooperation and commitment ensured a prayerful and orderly celebration.
Adding colour and enthusiasm to the occasion, the ICYM youth organized stalls and lucky games, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere for parishioners of all ages.
The Altar Boys contributed meaningfully by organizing lucky draws such as “Festaso Kombo: Lucky Hen.” The proceeds collected from these activities were dedicated towards the purchase of new altar dresses, reflecting their active involvement and sense of responsibility towards the service of the altar.
The Parish Feast of 2026 was truly a celebration of faith, family, and fellowship, leaving behind cherished memories and renewed spiritual strength. It served as a reminder that when a parish comes together in prayer, service, and unity, Christ remains alive and active at the heart of its journey.
