The 7th Sunday of the Word of God (Bible Sunday) – 2026 was celebrated with deep reverence and devotion at Holy Cross Church, Hospet. The faithful gathered in large numbers to honour the Holy Scriptures, recognizing the Word of God as the guiding light of Christian life.
The celebration was marked by a solemn and prayerful atmosphere. Rev. Fr. Gregory D’Souza, Parish Priest, led the liturgical observances with great devotion. As a mark of reverence to the Sacred Scriptures, flowers were offered to the Holy Bible, symbolising love, gratitude, and respect for the Word of God. The Holy Scripture was then incensed using the thurible, and a deep bow was made, signifying honour and submission to God’s living Word.
During the Holy Eucharist, Fr. Gregory D’Souza delivered an inspiring homily highlighting the importance of the Word of God in the daily lives of Christians. He emphasized that the Bible is not merely a book to be read, but the living Word through which God speaks, guides, corrects, and strengthens the faithful. He encouraged parishioners to develop a habit of regular Scripture reading, reflection, and living the Word in their thoughts and actions.
The Holy Mass was concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Joy Rodrigues, SJ, whose presence added spiritual significance to the celebration. The liturgy reflected unity, faith, and a renewed commitment to listen to and live according to God’s Word.
The celebration of Bible Sunday served as a powerful reminder to the parish community of Holy Cross Church, Hospet, to deepen their relationship with God through Scripture and to allow the Word of God to transform their personal, family, and community life.
The programme concluded in a spirit of thanksgiving, reverence, and renewed faith, inspiring the faithful to carry the Word of God into their daily lives.
